Blogging

I am technologically deprived when it comes to computers and am very slow in learning about them.  Once I learn it, after a long time, I am fine.

The blogging technique has been very uncomfortable for me these last three days because of my lack of computer skills.   Since I teach first grade, I can’t see me using this in my classroom with my students.  They struggle so much with the keyboard that I feel the time they take to peck out the keys will slow their thought processes and it won’t be an effective tool.  This also addresses the lack of time we have, especially in the computer lab.

But it could be used with parents in communicating homework assignments.  Spelling words, high frequency words for the week could be posted.  Special assignments could be explained in detail with dates given.  The problem I see here is that many of our parents don’t have the internet, believe it or not, and they wouldn’t have access to the information given.  So a hard copy is still the best way to make sure information is given.

Nichole’s Blog

I just read from Nichole’s blog.  The teenage years can be so tough.  The feelings she is experimenting are felt by all of us.  It is a time for experimenting and finding out who we are.  The lessons we learn in these years are carried with us into life.  The same problems we experience with love in teenage years continue with us into marriage.  Sometimes there we also feel not noticed, not valued.  But the lesson we have to learn is not to shoot ourselves down but understand who we are and lift ourselves up and keep going.  I hope she can be happy with herself and focus on the good things in life and not the disappointments.

Blogging Can Enhance Learning

Filed under: Uncategorized — lbaer at 4:45 pm on Monday, June 11, 2007

I have only heard the word “blogging” in terms of negativity. But from what I have read today, blogging can be very useful in an educational setting. Instead of using so much paper, spelling words, high frequency words, math topics could be posted here along with other ideas to enhance their learning. It would be a wonderful sight for parents to share ideas with others on class projects or class star activities. Room mothers could make assignments for parties. It would be so fun to let students use their language skills to write notes to me, share important events in their life and then let me write back a reply. This would help their reading and writing. The many possibilities are endless.
